Hello everyone! Happy Veterans Day!

Announcement: We know we have been pushing our new app/website through this newsletter a ton, but please bear with us. We’ve been working hard to replicate this newsletter for all cities the cities in Washington through our new website. Most recently, we have made a Headline mobile app where it is a dedicated news feed for Washington cities, primarily The Eastside cities. In addition to a dedicated app for Washington news, we also have our personalized newsletter platform on the app as well. You can choose any city you want in the world, as well as the topics you are interested in, and we will send you news + events weekly. We’re looking for people to test out our new app before we launch it to the world. Please reply to this email if you’d be willing to try out the app, it would mean the world to us 😄

  • Bellevue's Comprehensive Plan for 2024-2044 Approved: Bellevue City Council has unanimously approved its updated Comprehensive Plan, outlining growth and development goals through 2044. With plans for 35,000 new housing units and 70,000 additional jobs, the strategy emphasizes transit-oriented development in areas like Wilburton and BelRed, focusing on housing affordability, equity, and climate-focused initiatives. Mayor Lynne Robinson praised the plan as a significant step toward ensuring a high quality of life for all residents.   • Kenmore's Manufactured Housing Communities Ordinance Upheld: The Manufactured Housing Communities (MHC) Ordinance 19-0481, which preserves the city’s mobile home parks and supports affordable housing for seniors, remains in effect after legal appeals were dismissed. The Superior Court of Thurston County and the U.S. District Court both upheld the ordinance, which addresses mobile home park closures and provides options for landowners to transfer development rights. Additionally, the city is considering future rezones for the four manufactured housing communities north of SR-522, with an emphasis on increasing density and affordability, though the timing for this is still undecided. News:

  • IHCA Bark Bark Improvement Project Update: The IHCA's Bark Bark Improvement Project is progressing, with several upgrades already completed, including the replacement of the small dog park entry gate, a new fence separating the large and small dog parks, and regrading around the gazebo. Work continues through the winter months, with additional fence replacements and new benches planned for the small dog park. While the park will remain open for most of the time, occasional closures may occur as part of the ongoing project. (info)

  • Light Up the Lanes 2024: Issaquah Highlands will transform into a winter wonderland with the return of the annual "Light Up the Lanes" holiday decorating contest. The contest, supported by Grand Ridge Plaza, invites residents to decorate their homes, yards, and porches with festive lights and decorations. Prizes will be awarded to individual decorators, neighborhoods, and randomly selected entries. To enter, residents simply decorate, submit a photo of their display, and vote for their favorite neighborhood. (info)
