King County Infant Diagnosed with Measles; Public Exposure Sites Identified: A King County infant has been confirmed as Washington’s first measles case of 2025, likely contracted during international travel. Public Health - Seattle & King County identified several potential exposure sites between Feb. 20-25, including the Apple Store at Bellevue Square, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and medical clinics in Bothell and Redmond. Measles, a highly contagious airborne virus, can spread before symptoms appear and linger for up to two hours in the air. Health officials urge those exposed to check MMR vaccination status and seek medical advice if they develop fever, cough, or rash. The MMR vaccine is 97% effective, but King County’s vaccination rates remain below herd immunity levels, increasing the risk of further spread. (info)
