Summer is almost here! Welcome back, readers, to this week's newsletter. I am ecstatic because I have a great summer event compilation for you all this week. The weather is heating up, so it's just the right moment to try and get your parents out to spend some time with them at the park. We have a question for our readers this week. What is your favorite summertime activity?

  • A missing teenager was found safe in Renton early Friday morning by Bellevue Police. (info)

  • On May 14th, the Climate Justice Club brought students and faculty together to assist in cleaning up Bellevue College’s campus. (info)

  • Koelsch Communities nears completion of $93M Bellevue project. The Belle Harbour project, home to The Park at Belle Harbour, an assisted living community and The Inn at Belle Harbour, a dedicated memory care community are nearly complete. (info)

  • The city council has proposed several items in their recent meeting. They want to provide enhanced technical support for the city’s potential vendors, foster transparent data reporting, cultivate strong/lasting relationships with city vendors and elevate the standard of procurement practices.   • Bellevue will be hosting the Squash World Tour finals in June. The PSA World Tour Finals is returning to the USA after a decade-long hiatus with the venue being the Boys and Girls Club Hidden Valley Field House. (info)

  • The city is issuing a request for proposals from organizations with projects that may be suitable for Community Development Block Grant funding. (info)

  • Yoga in the park winter indoor series on May 25th from 10:30-11:30am. (info)

  • The power of public spaces: Transforming Bellevue’s urban landscape on May 29th from 7:30 - 9am (info)

  • The Bellevue Beats & Bites Music Series starts on June 4th and runs to August 1st. The series will run from noon to 1pm. (info)

Redmond:

News:

  • Five Redmond high school students have created a non-profit that offers free coding classes to the community. (info)

  • The city has earned the housing development consortium’s community championships award. The award is presented annually by HDC to an individual or organization for exemplary work and leadership in advancing racial equity and equitable development in broad and diverse coalitions or networks.   • The city has increased street sweeping of the 3.53 miles of public roads within the Tosh Creek Watershed. If you live in the Tosh Creek Watershed, please avoid parking on the streets. (info)

Events:

  • United Festival is a family friendly event in honor of Asian American and Native Hawaiian/PI Heritage Month! Enjoy shopping, delicious food and performances. May 25th from 12-5pm. (info)

Issaquah:

News:

  • The city council is meeting today to discuss the topics of new proclamations, PFAS updates, community solar and wildfire/wildland urban interference. You are able to attend and voice your opinion. (info)

  • King County has investigated an outbreak of Gastrointestinal illness associated with Coho Cafe in Issaquah. There were 6 cases, however they did not find a specific food or drink item that may have caused the illness. (info)

  • Mayor Pauly has been awarded with a Certificate of Municipal Leadership from the Association of Washington Cities. (info)

  • Trailhead direct service to Issaquah has resumed. Travel right form Seattle or the Issaquah Transit Center to Issaquah trails. This is a seasonal program that provides transit services to trailheads along the I90 corridor. It officially returns on May 25th. (info)

  • Business empowerment workshop: join the greater Issaquah Chamber of Commerce and Startup 425 for an event that focuses on customer development and research. May 23rd from 11am-1pm. (info)

Kirkland:

News:

  • Expect road closures and traffic disruptions in various areas, including Northeast 116th Place, Eighth Avenue West, and Lake Street’s intersection with Kirkland Avenue, due to ongoing construction projects. (info)

  • The next Kirkland City Council meeting on May 21, 2024, will discuss topics including the automated safety camera program in school zones and the Cascade Water Alliance negotiations. (info)

  • Renee Cox, Crisis Responder Supervisor with the Regional Crisis Response Agency, has been nominated as a finalist for KING 5's Hometown Heroes award for her contributions to mental health crisis response. (info)

  • The grand opening of Fire Station 27 was a success, with hundreds of families touring the new facilities, made possible by the 2020 Fire Prop (info)

Renton:

News:

  • A semi-truck caught on fire on I-405 North in Renton. A hit and run driver caused teh crash which left the lanes of the highway closed for hours. (info)

  • Mayor Armondo Pavone has proclaimed May 18-24 as Safe Boating and Paddling Week, highlighting the importance of water safety and the use of life jackets during water activities. (info)

  • The City of Renton celebrates National Public Works Week from May 19-25, recognizing the essential services provided by the Public Works Department, from snow removal to sustainability education. (info)

  • All city facilities in Renton will be closed on May 27 in observance of Memorial Day, ensuring residents are aware of the closure and can plan accordingly. (info)

Events:

  • Join the City of Renton and local veterans' organizations at Veterans Memorial Park on May 27 from 1-2 p.m. for a Memorial Day tribute featuring speeches, performances, and wreath presentations. (info)

Mercer Island:

News:

  • A trio of Mercer Island student’s stellar academic performances caught the attention of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. They have received $2500 scholarships to put towards their studies. (info)

  • The police department is investigating hate speech and vandalism on signange that was promoting the upcoming Pride in the Park event. (info)

Fall City/Snoqualmie:

News:

  • The Snoqualmie Fire Department is set to replace its aging 2003 fire engine with a new 2024 KME model by early fall, featuring a "clean cab" design to reduce firefighters' exposure to carcinogenic chemicals. (info)

  • On May 12, Snoqualmie police arrested a Tesla Cybertruck driver for DUI and hit and run after the vehicle damaged a roundabout by "monstertrucking" on Southeast Tokul Road. The Cybertruck was found with heavy damage at the scene. (info)

  • A Seattle woman in her late forties is in serious condition after her car lost control on Highway 99 and collided with an unoccupied display vehicle at the Lynnwood Honda dealership. (info)

  • Former Bothell City Councilmember James McNeal, Jr. pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Liliya Guyvoronsky. McNeal, found covered in blood at the scene on April 30, is accused of killing Guyvoronsky. (info)

News:

  • The City of Woodinville is seeking a passionate resident to join the Planning Commission, where you'll help shape the city's growth by reviewing land use plans, zoning maps, and other planning initiatives. Apply by June 7 at 11:59 PM. (info)

  • Molbak’s Garden + Home in Woodinville, which closed in January 2024, aims to reopen as a community hub for retailers and groups under the Green Phoenix Collaborative initiative. The store needs to raise $2.5 million by May 9 to fund the project. (info)

What we are currently loving!

  • Fuji Steak House: Fuji Steak House in Redmond, WA offers a delightful dining experience with its authentic Japanese cuisine and teppanyaki cooking. One dish you must try is their mouthwatering Hibachi Filet Mignon, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor.

  • Beardslee Public House: Beardslee Public House in Bothell, WA is a vibrant spot known for its handcrafted beers and delicious American fare. One highly recommended dish is their savory BPH Burger, featuring a blend of prime beef and brisket topped with house-made pickles and aioli.

  • Fins Bistro: Fins Bistro in Issaquah, WA is a delightful spot for seafood lovers, known for its fresh, seasonal dishes and inviting atmosphere. One must-try dish is their Grilled Wild Alaskan Salmon, which comes perfectly complemented by a tangy citrus beurre blanc sauce. The restaurant's cozy ambiance and attentive service make it an excellent choice for a special night out.
