Happy Monday everyone! We're back with another edition of Seastside, packed with the latest happenings across our communities. We have added a couple of new cities so let your friends and family know about our amazing community! This week’s edition has important news updates to exciting events and exclusive deals, we've got you covered. Plus, don't miss our spotlight on local restaurants like the Pine Lake Ale House in Sammamish and this week's weather. 

Today’s Seastside includes:

  • Increase in the minimum wage in Renton

  • Kindergarten registration is open for Issaquah School District

  • An earthquake?!

News

Bellevue:

  • I-405 and SR 167 toll rates and tolled hours will change on March 1, 2024. The minimum rate will increase to $1 and the maximum Good To Go! Toll rate will increase to $15. (info)

Redmond:

  • The City of Redmond has secured a partnership with Plymouth Housing and a regional coalition for housing on a living space for those who are disabled and housing insecure. The property transfer aims to foster the development of 100 safe, secure and dignified housing units at 16725 Cleveland St. (info)

  • Puget Sound Energy announced it is filing a two-year rate plan, which PSE says is a “plan necessary for maintaining essential utility services and investing in our infrastructure to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of energy to our customers.” If approved, the typical electric customer would see an average monthly bill increase of $7.84 and monthly increase of $13.96 for a typical residential natural gas customer starting in January 2025. Kirkland:

  • City council adopted the 2024-20206 Planning Work Program. The PWP guides the planning and building departments' work over the next three years. They are looking at projects that will be related to housing, design, permit review timelines and city-initiated projects. (info) 

  • Apply for a board or commission by Feb. 27th @ 4PM. Vacancies in the Cultural Arts Commission, Design Review Board, Parks Board and more! (info)

  • The Kirkland Chamber of Commerce has a new executive director, Jessica Hoover! (info)

Sammamish:

  • Tune into the public hearing for the proposed adoption of the Sammamish Transit Plan. The hearing is on March 5th. The Sammamish Transit Plan’s goal is to enhance mobility within Sammamish and the neighboring region. (info)

Issaquah:

  • Kindergarten registration is open for Issaquah School District. If you have a child who will turn five by August 31st now is the time to enroll them for the 2024-2025! (info)

  • A bill that gives Washington States’s Superintendent of Public Instruction ultimate authority in school curriculum was passed on February 22nd. Sen. Mark Mullet voted for the but was disappointed in the final wording of the one that was passed. He felt the bill with the Senate amendment made it even worse. (info)

Renton:

  • Renton envisions a public market and food hall to replace the old Renton Pavilion Event Center. The goal is to make it a bustling year-round meeting spot. (info)

  • Renton passed a ballot initiative to increase the minimum wage to $20.29 for large businesses and $18.29 for small businesses. This increase in the minimum wage has led to Renton having one of the highest minimum wages in the nation. The initiative also added a requirement for employers to give new work to existing part-time employees before they can hire new people. (info)

Mercer Island:

  • The failing expansion join on the Mercer Island section of I-90 has taken longer than expected to finish. The WSDOT is having trouble finding a contractor that can do the re-striping. Expect a 15-20 min delay in your normal travel times until this gets repaired. (info)

  • Hopelink’s mobile market has made its way to Mercer Island to offer free fresh and shelf-stable goods to those in need. The markets have been successful thus far with Islanders shopping for fruits, vegetables, and more! (info)

  • Youth summer camp registration has opened. Offering a variety of programs that range from science, to art and math! (info)

Bothell:

  • IonQ has opened it’s quantum computing manufacturing facility in Bothell. It is the first known dedicated quantum computing facility and they have big hiring plans. They expect to add 100’s of jobs and invest $1B into the region in the following years. (info)

Fall City/North Bend/ Snoqualmie:

  • On February 22nd there was a 3.5 magnitude earthquake 7.07 miles east of Carnation. The earthquake was felt in Bothell, Cottage Lake, Issaquah and North Bend. (info)

  • Starting on April 1st, the City of North Bend will begin a new garbage removal service. This means new dates and pricing for those living in the city. (info)

Food:

Pine Lake Ale House (Sammamish)

From childhood memories to present-day gatherings, the Pine Lake Ale House in Sammamish has been a cherished spot for my family. The vibrant atmosphere, coupled with amazing dishes, makes every visit unforgettable. Whether it's their renowned chicken Caesar salad or juicy burgers, the food never disappoints. But what truly makes this place special is its role as a community hub – a place where friends gather after little league games and neighbors come together for good times. With friendly service and a welcoming vibe, the Pine Lake Ale House is a place that everyone needs to check out. If you go let them know Seastside recommended sent you!

Vibes:

  • This week's weather looks to be a cloudy and rainy one. Monday through Friday expect clouds and rain with temperatures in the mid-40s. The weekend looks to be spectacular with sun and weather in the mid-40s as well. Make sure to get out of the house, enjoy the later sunsets and beautiful skies!

  • The Peaks to Peak Twin Peaks Wine Event includes a train ride and wine tasting from Kyle McLaughlin’s Winery! Tickets are still available! It’s going through the two towns used for filming the hit tv show Twin Peaks. North Bend/ Snoqualmie. (info)
